## 3D models

- **Z-Anatomy – The libre 3D atlas of anatomy** – CC BY-SA 4.0
  https://github.com/Z-Anatomy/Models-of-human-anatomy
Design, 3D and anatomy by Gauthier Kervyn; Blender add-on by Marcin Zielinski; Unity development by Lluís Vinent.
- **BodyParts3D** – The Database Center for Life Science (DBCLS), Japan – CC BY-SA 2.1 Japan
  https://dbarchive.biosciencedbc.jp/en/bodyparts3d/download.html
Original model by Kousaku Okubo. Z-Anatomy's meshes derive from this database.
- **Cranial Nerves and Foramina** – University of Dundee, CAHID – CC BY 4.0 (used as reference/adapted in Z-Anatomy).
- **"Brainder" and "White matter"** – University of Washington (used as reference/adapted in Z-Anatomy).
- **Human Reference Atlas 3D Reference Organs (female)** – HuBMAP Consortium – CC BY 4.0
  https://github.com/hubmapconsortium/ccf-3d-reference-object-library (`VH_Female/v1.2`)
Kristen Browne / Heidi Schlehlein, from the NLM Visible Human Female. Used for the female reproductive
organs and bladder (`female.glb`): uterus, vagina, ovaries, uterine tubes, some ligaments, uterine vessels.
  Fitted onto the Z-Anatomy body (scaled 0.9 sideways, moved to sit on the bladder) by `tools/female_fit.py`;
object names mapped to Terminologia Anatomica names. Each of these parts says `source: HRA` and
  `license: CC-BY-4.0` in `parts-index.json`.
- **Human Reference Atlas 3D Reference Organs (male)** – HuBMAP Consortium – CC BY 4.0
  https://github.com/hubmapconsortium/ccf-3d-reference-object-library (`VH_Male/v1.2`)
From the NLM Visible Human Male. Used for the kidneys (`kidney.glb`): capsule, cortex, renal columns,
pyramids, papillae, minor and major calyces, renal pelvis. Scaled to 0.94 and fitted onto the Z-Anatomy body
by `tools/build-kidney-ear.mjs`; groups of sub-meshes (the nine pyramids, papillae and minor calyces, the three
major calyces) are joined into one part each and the meshes simplified. Each of these parts says `source: HRA`
  and `license: CC-BY-4.0` in `parts-index.json`.

## Made for this site

- **Inner ear** (`ear.glb`): cochlea, vestibule and the three semicircular canals, built in code by
`tools/build-kidney-ear.mjs` as simplified shapes from standard textbook measurements, and placed on the
Z-Anatomy stapes and cochlear nerve. Published under CC BY-SA 4.0 with the other models; `source: Corpus`
  in `parts-index.json`.
- **Texts for the kidney and inner-ear parts**, and the short tube joining each renal pelvis to the
  Z-Anatomy ureter.

### Excluded on purpose

Z-Anatomy also incorporates two models under non-commercial licenses. Those structures are **removed** from
this site's exports so that everything published here is CC BY-SA compatible (the kidneys and inner ears on
this site are the replacements listed above):

- "Anatomy of the Inner Ear" – University of Dundee School of Medicine – CC BY-NC-SA 4.0
(cochlea, vestibule, semicircular canals and related structures)
- "Kidney" – Lissie Cowley – CC BY-NC 4.0
  (kidney, renal pelvis, intrarenal vessels)

The exact list of excluded objects is written to `build/export-report.json` on every export.

## Definitions

- **Wikipedia** – CC BY-SA 3.0. Definitions were collected by the Z-Anatomy project from Wikipedia articles.
Most (about 1,970 of 2,270) link to their source article; the rest came without a link in the source
file and are shown without one. They may contain errors; corrections welcome.
- The kidney and inner-ear texts were written for this site (see "Made for this site").

## Icons

- **Lucide** – ISC license – https://lucide.dev (search, menu, x, maximize, dice, book, camera; inlined in `src/ui/Dialog.tsx`)

## Hand and face finders

- **MediaPipe Hand Landmarker** (Google) – Apache License 2.0 – https://ai.google.dev/edge/mediapipe/solutions/vision/hand_landmarker
The model `models/hand_landmarker.task` (float16, v1) and the `@mediapipe/tasks-vision` runtime, served from
this site, power "X-ray your hand". The camera picture stays on the device.
- **MediaPipe Face Landmarker** (Google) – Apache License 2.0 – https://ai.google.dev/edge/mediapipe/solutions/vision/face_landmarker
The model `models/face_landmarker.task` (float16, v1), on the same runtime, powers "X-ray your face". The skull
fit uses landmark positions of MediaPipe's canonical face model (Apache 2.0).

## Changes made

Models were exported from Blender to glTF, deduplicated, welded, mesh-simplified (muscles, vessels, nerves) and
compressed with meshopt. Object names were preserved. Empty label objects, collection title text, and the
non-commercial structures above were removed. The HRA female organs were moved and slightly narrowed to fit the
Z-Anatomy pelvis, and renamed; ligaments that do not fit the smaller pelvis were left out. The HRA male kidneys
were scaled, turned and moved to fit the Z-Anatomy body, and renamed; the HRA ureters, renal vessels and the
renal-sinus ("hilum") plug were left out.
